Sandboarding & Sunset on the Merzouga Dunes

Walk to a suitable Erg Chebbi slope with a local guide, try sandboarding and stay for the evening light.

3 Hours Starts in Merzouga Ends in Erg Chebbi Private tour

About this tour

Sandboarding on the Erg Chebbi dunes at the most photogenic hour of the day. You ride up to the dune field in a 4x4, strap on a board and slide down the steep faces — standing up if you are brave, sitting down if you prefer. No snow, no lift pass, just a rolling carpet of sand.

The boards are simple and forgiving, the guides choose a slope to match your skill, and a few warm-up runs teach you the trick in minutes. The session ends at sunset, with the dunes turning gold and then deep orange around you.

Two hours door to door. We provide boards, transport and instruction — you bring energy and a camera.

Common questions

Have you tried sandboarding before?

No experience needed. The guides start you on gentle slopes and the sand is forgiving. Most people get the hang of it in a couple of runs.

Is it dangerous?

No more than sledging. Falls land on soft sand, helmets are provided and the guides choose slopes suited to the group.

Can children take part?

Yes. Children ride the gentler slopes, usually sitting down, and have a great time. Tell us their ages when you book.

What if the wind is strong?

Light wind is fine and even helps. In the rare case of a sandstorm we reschedule or refund.

Can we combine sandboarding with a camel ride or quad?

Yes, combined packages are popular. Ask us for options and prices.
